Carinya Dementia Services
Who is Carinya for?
Carinya provides a service that caters for the special needs of people who are diagnosed with dementia, memory loss and confusion. Carinya aims to maintain and enhance the independence and quality of life for people with dementia, living in the Eastern Metropolitan Region, through socialisation, day activities and overnight respite. Carinya also offers respite to Carers of people with dementia.
What services does Carinya offer?
Carinya coordinates a variety of activities including discussions and reminiscing, board games, simple exercises, outings, gardening, simple cooking and meal preparation.
Where is Carinya located?
Carinya is located at the rear of the Villa Maria Centre, 355 Stud Road, Wantirna South. Parking is available on site. The Centre is also accessible by public transport. Limited transport services are available from Carinya. A bus can pick up people in the City of Knox from Monday to Friday only. Please call Carinya to discuss this option further.
Cost
Cost is based upon income and ranges from $10 per session for a day program, plus $5 for an evening meal if required, to $31 for an overnight stay. Prices start from $20 per session for a day program for people receiving Community Aged Care Packages.

Additional funding
In addition to client fees, funding also comes from the Victorian Department of Human Services - Home and Community Care Program, National Respite for Carers Program as well as donations from the community.

Hours of operation
Carinya operates seven days a week, only closing for one week from 24th December (Christmas Eve) and reopening on the 31st December (New Years Eve).

What is Avebury House?
Avebury House isupports working carers by providing planned and Out and About activities for the person they care for who is frail aged and/or has dementia. Hours are 7am – 7pm, Monday to Friday and 10am – 2pm, Saturday and Sunday. Avebury House is closed between 24th December and 31st December. Please note that Avebury House is closed on public holidays.
What is provided?
A large function room and kitchen provide an area for activities while the enclosed garden allows outdoor programs to be conducted safely. Morning tea, a cooked lunch and afternoon tea are also provided.
The Club aims to provide a positive, safe and enjoyable environment for clients and offers much needed respite for carers. Qualified staff members conducting activities ensure that the program is flexible and responsive to the individuals' needs.
Where is it located?
Avebury House runs from Villa Maria's Berwick Aged Care Residence located at 89-93 Avebury Drive.
How do I get involved?
An Aged Care Assessment is not required and referrals are accepted from any source.
