Aged Residential Care
What is residential care?
Residential Care provides accommodation and support for people who can no longer live at home.
In low level (hostel) care you can live independently, but get help with meals and laundry, and personal care like dressing and bathing. High level (nursing home) care includes ongoing nursing care, as well as meals, laundry, cleaning and personal care. All residential care homes must provide basic services to residents at a standard cost. These include:
- Staff on call to provide help at all times;
- Meals;
- Basic accommodation related services such as furnishing;
- Bedding;
- Laundry;
- Cleaning services; and
- Maintenance of buildings and grounds.
All residential care services are required to maintain standards. They must provide high quality care to every resident, and make sure they have qualified staff to meet residents' needs. Your rights in residential care are the same as those of any other person.
Who is eligible for residential care?
To enter a Villa Maria residential care service, you will need to be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Service. Information regarding Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) is available from your local GP and / or the ACAS assessment team in your area.
