Independent Living Units

What are Independent Living Units?

The Villara units are located at 357 Stud Road, Wantirna South 3152. There are 39 independent living units. There is one two-bedroom unit; with the remainder being one-bedroom units.

Villara Independent Living Units are owned and managed by the Office of Housing (Ringwood branch manages Villara and Reservoir branch manages Bundoora) but are built on land leased from Villa Maria. Villa Maria retains sponsorship rights for admitting residents into the independent living units.

How do I get access to Independent Living Units?

The Office of Housing must have assessed applicants for the units as eligible for public housing. They must have been allocated an application number; receive the full pension; and have assets less than $30,000, with discretionary up to $60,000.

Applicants must have lived in the local municipality for at least two years. Alternatively, applicants must be seeking to relocate in order to live near direct family members that have at least a two years' relationship with the municipality.

Applicants must be over 55 years of age, unless extenuating circumstances exist and the applicant is known via services of Villa Maria and the Office of Housing approves the applicant.

The Villa Maria Statement of Ethics and Code of conduct has a Christian focus for staff, however residents from all nationalities and denominations are welcome.

For more information on accessing Independent Living Units, see the Admissions and Costs page.
