Max Lay nominated for inaugural award

Villa Maria employee, Max Lay, has been nominated as a finalist in the inaugural Not-For-Profit Network Awards, organised by Disability Professionals Victoria, in the Team Member category.

The Not-For-Profit Network Awards recognise the efforts of nonprofit organisations, people, and projects who are achieving outstanding work within the Australian and New Zealand sector. Four awards recognise those people, organisations and projects that have made a huge impact on achieving their organisation's vision.

Max Lay is the Manager of Gateway and Accommodation Services at Villa Maria and also the Ambassador for "Villa's Involvement Program" (VIP).  "VIP" is an innovative, fun and creative program in which people who work for Villa Maria spend two days together exploring the organisation's values and how those values can be put into action.

Max is renowned for his warmth, generosity and sense of humour and makes a positive difference to the lives of people with disabilities, people who work at Villa Maria and everyone around him.

Everyone at Villa Maria wishes Max the best of luck for the award which will be announced on 23 November.

100 years, thousands of stories, millions of possibilities

100 years ago, a small group of volunteers from St Vincent de Paul, led by a remarkable woman called Louisa Fawkner, banded together to provide Catholic and secular reading for the Catholic blind residents in Victoria. This group called themselves the Catholic Braille Writers Association.

Today this organisation is known as Villa Maria and it now provides a wide variety of services to people from all denominations through its disability, community, aged care and education services.

Villa Maria recognises that its rich history is made up of the collective stories of all the people who have ever been associated with the organisation. In recognising and honouring this a storytelling project, "Thousands of stories, millions of possibilities" will mark the Centenary and will be showcased at an exhibition to be held in September.

All people who have a story to share which is part of the fabric of Villa Maria's history are invited to become part of our Centenary celebrations. For more information please contact Vanessa Toy on 9854 5138.

Be sure to check back for further updates and to access our completed history later in the year.
