On 28 May, the Wantirna high care facility officially closed its doors, ahead of the proposed redevelopment of the Villa Maria Wantirna site.
While it was indeed sad to close the doors of this facility after 31 years, especially for the residents and dedicated staff, it was a necessary step towards creating a facility that will better meet the current and future needs of the Knox community.
“For Villa Maria it’s an important step forward,” said Villa Maria CEO Valerie Lyons.
“I do however want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful resident care and support that has taken place at Wantirna over the past 31 years and I sincerely thank the staff, volunteers and our many community supporters for their commitment and dedication to the wellbeing of our seniors. Together, they have laid a strong foundation for the new aged care facility when it opens as part of the Villa Maria Wantirna redevelopment.”
“We look forward to the opportunities ahead as we work towards creating an exciting new community hub; one that melds traditional aged care with broader community care and independent living.”
Stage 1 of the Wantirna redevelopment includes a new 96-bed aged care residence that will offer single-room high care, low care, extra services and dementia specific facilities.
Other services currently operating at Villa Maria’s Wantirna site, that is: Villa Maria Rehabilitation Centre, Gateway Services and the White Road day program will continue to operate as normal. They will not be closing as the building works are not expected to impact on these services. Carinya Dementia Service will relocate to its new home in Lysterfield in a few months. |
