With opening performances from Kiss, Madonna and John Lennon leading to the long awaited Titanic movie launch, fun was had by all at Gateway Mount Waverley this week. Members of the Gateway Mount Waverley Drama Group had been filming scenes for the movie since June 2011 and were very excited for their red carpet premier on Tuesday, February 14. Villa Maria employed the talents of drama teacher Glenda May and her team to guide individuals through acting skills, creative expression and using their imagination for the making of the film. To help connect with the famous story of the ill-fated ship, the group attended the Titanic Restaurant in Williamstown and learned about the individual characters who managed to survive, or were lost forever at sea. "It's such an iconic story and the guys really got into the spirit of the drama and enjoyed getting dressed up and taken to another era," Glenda said. "I think drama helps everybody, in terms of growing their confidence, which is what I have seen at Villa Maria. The acts of bravery on the Titanic were amazing, and I think often people supported by Villa Maria are so brave themselves. For me personally, it's been a very rewarding thing to do." Group member Tomek Degorski said: "Being part of the group is really good. We have lots of fun learning our roles and going into character."
