A message from the Every Australian Counts Team: The NDIS is finally on its way.
The Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has announced $1 billion over four years to kick start the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
This is great news for all Australians, but it's only the beginning.
If you missed the details of the budget, here is what the government announced:
- $342.5 million over three years from July next year for individually funded packages for people with significant and permanent disability.
- $154.8 million over three years from July next year to employ Local Area Coordinators to provide an individualised approach to delivering care and support to people with a disability.
- $58.6 million over three years from July next year to assess the needs of people with a disability in the launch locations.
- $122.6 million over four years to start preparing the disability sector for the new way of delivering disability services.
It's a great start, but there's still much more work to be done.
The NDIS needs to be expanded to help every Australian living with disability, and their family and carers.
The NDIS still needs to be legislated so it becomes part of the Australian system, and continues to help Australians living with disability beyond the next few years.
We want to reach our goal of 200,000 supporters by the end of the year. Every supporter counts - asking your friends and family members to support the campaign is more important than ever before.
We must keep campaigning until it's in full swing and the NDIS is Real, for everyone who needs it.
Yours,
The Every Australian Counts Campaign Team

P.S. If every supporter of this campaign signed up two people today, we would reach our goal in minutes. Who will you ask to support the NDIS?
