The Arts

Art Therapy Programs are a creative and enjoyable way to provide valuable learning experiences and to practice important skills. Art materials are not confined to the traditional paint and paper but incorporate a wide range of items which add exciting sensory smells, textures and sounds to the creative process.

Drama

Drama encourages our students to make and share performance works that communicate observations, ideas, feelings and experiences. We explore voice, movement, character and storytelling using themes and skills to shape our sessions. Developing our drama skills includes use of mime, dance, group improvisations and creating characters in costumes.

Therapy Programs

Speech and Language Pathology

Each child is assessed individually to obtain a baseline, in order to create and implement goals to increase the communication skills according to their specific level of functioning.  The speech and language pathologist works with children both individually and in groups, according to their needs.  They also work with other team members and family members to ensure the carry over and maintenance of skills into the classroom and the home.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) programs are provided as individual or group sessions. OT concentrates on improving students' fine motor (hand skills), living skills and visual perception skills with a focus on the individual and what is important to them.  OT also supports difficulties with sensory integration and processing, management of upper limb hyper tonicity and assists with equipment to increase independence. OT works in collaboration with classroom staff and other members of the therapy team to complement classroom learning.

Music Therapy

Music is an excellent medium for motivating students and engaging them in a variety of tasks. Music supports communication and is a language that staff and students can share. Through the use of adaptive equipment, all students are able to independently participate in music making.  Music therapy programs include individual and small group sessions and music and movement.

Hydrotherapy

Weekly hydrotherapy sessions in our wonderful, warm hydrotherapy pool provide a great source of pleasure, freedom and learning for all students.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is involved in all areas of the children's development.  The aim is to integrate the students' development of physical skills into their daily school program, whilst also empowering them with the abilities to more functionally interact with their environment. This is achieved through muscle stretching and splinting, positioning, development of gross and fine motor skills, and teaching students how to organise their bodies both in space and for various activities. Physiotherapy also provides support for students and families after surgery.
