Becoming a Volunteer

What We Look For In Volunteers

For all of our volunteering roles, we look for people who can demonstrate values and abilities in keeping with Villa Maria's ethos and goals. Experience tells us that these qualities will help you to succeed in working with us.

Interpersonal skills - Honesty, openness, great listening and communication skills, respect and courtesy.

Commitment - For most roles we expect an in-principle commitment of three months minimum.

Shared values - We look for people who are aligned with and committed to Villa Maria's goals and our way of working.

Great teamwork skills - Respect for the skills and needs of staff and other volunteers, and an ability to work really well as a team member.

Enthusiasm and initiative - A positive attitude goes a long way in volunteering!

How do I apply?

The initial screening process may take several weeks, and includes a detailed application form, attending an information session, reference checks and a police records check. This detailed application process enables us to choose the right people for our volunteering roles, and gives you a chance to discover if Villa Maria is the right place for you.

NOTE: For volunteer roles that involve working with children you will require the national Working With Children (WWC) check.  This is free for volunteers and can be applied for through Australia Post outlets.  You will need to submit a passport photograph with the WWC application.

Volunteer Information Sessions are held regularly at our major sites. They offer a great chance to find out more about volunteering at Villa Maria including the opportunities and expectations.
